Duck House - Monterey Park, CA

Slave girl got a Groupon deal for the Duck House. Since the restaurant was pricey on everything, we just ordered the duck only.

We made a reservation prior to our arrival, but the restaurant wasn't that busy on a week night. We got seated in the back room where no one ever checked on us. There was a bell on the wall but just the idea of ringing the bell to have our water refilled seemed silly.

We got free duck feet as appetizer, that was nice. It was less meaty compared to chicken but the sauce used to marinate the feet was good.

The duck took a little while to come out even with reservation. It was plated over a bowl of hot water to maintain the plate temperature. It also came with scallion, "Peking sauce", and house pancake which was similar to tortillas.

To enjoy this meal, simply spread the sauce on the tortilla, then add on the scallion, duck meat and duck skin. Lastly, wrap it up like a taco and eat it. You can definitely eat the meat and skin on its own if you don't want too much carb. The duck meat was soft and tender, the skin was crispy and delicious. I can understand why it is called the duck house because the duck was cooked perfectly.

Overall, I don't think a return trip will happen and this is why. Food was good but way over priced. They nickel and dime everything starting with the scallion and the sauce. If we didn't portion them correctly, it would cost us $1 for more sauce and $1.50 for scallion... Was the scallion made out of gold?! The service didn't exist based on where we sat. Truly, it will have to be a free meal for me to step in again.
