Plan Check Kitchen + Bar - Los Angeles, CA

Slave girl and I decided to go back and give plan check a second try. This time around with much better experience. The service was fast and accommodating. We were seated by the patio, but the sun was in our eyes. When we asked for a different seat, we were taken to a new table right away. Our server was also great with the water refilling and checking on us for things.

This time I ordered Korean style BBQ ribs, slave girl got plan check burgers and a fries.

Plan check burger was delicious cooked to medium. It came with Americanized dashi cheese, ketchup leather, schmaltz onions, mixed pickles on a crunchy bun. Patty was flavored and not overly salty. Our server suggested not to get the bacon with it and that was the best suggestion ever. Don't get me wrong, it's not like we don't love bacon but if we added the bacon, it would overpower the burger. Good job, Magnus.

PCB, plan check burger. Don't add bacon to this.

The fries was fried well and I believe the ketchup was made in house because it had a different texture with a more fresh tomato taste to it.

Now, we were disappointed with the BBQ ribs. Let's start with the plate. It was cold when we got it and everything on the plate was lukewarm. Everything on the plate was also under seasoned. The black beans were plain, the ribs looked seasoned but had no flavor, the slaw was straight out chop and go. What happened to the Korean style? I got none of that. The good side was the meat fell off the bone easily but I had a strong feeling that the ribs were pre-made then heated up somehow when we ordered. By far it was one of the worst ribs I've ever had and I would not suggest to order this at all.

Waste of calories

Overall experience was much improved and not as greasy as I remembered. If we were in the area, we would eat here again. Here are some of the food we tried during DineLA 2017.

Spicy crab and crisp shallot devil egg

Tuna tartare

Carnita fries, soaked in grease.

Kalbi beef salad

Chicken and waffle, chicken not impressed, decent waffle.

Patty melt, soaked in grease. My hands were shinny after holding it.
