Slave girl and I were in the plaza waiting for our turn to eat at the noodle shop. The line was way too long and hangry was real, so we decided to try J&J instead.
The restaurant was super mom and pop but the menu and the custom designed plates made it look like some kind of huge corporation sponsored giant business. The service was decent but not very helpful when asked for suggestions, especially with "everything is good on the menu".
Radish fried cake. Bland and tasteless... Don't order. |
Sweet and sour pork ribs. Not very sour, but plenty sweet. |
We ordered crab meat XLB, Shanghai style stir fried rice cake, wonton soup, and braised pork with bean curd skin.
Crab meat XLB was good and I enjoyed it alot even though slave girl thought it was just so so. Truly I have respect for any places that sells real crab meat with the meat out of the shells. That's a lot of work especially when it comes to blue crab. It was too bad I forget to ask what crab was used for this XLB.
The rice cake and wonton were pretty average tasting. They weren't bad but nothing special about it.
Stir fried rice cake. First couple bites were good, but the flavor decrease as we ate... Is it even possible? |
Wonton soup |
The braised pork had a good flavor but it was packed with pork fat. I usually don't mind a little fat but the portion we got was gross. It needed some rice to go with it, and this is what I meant by server not being helpful because we should have been told to get rice or a different dish upon ordering.
Overall I enjoyed the place. The food was homey and the price was reasonable. XLB was decent and could be a quick fix when having the crave for XLB.
