Nick’s Cafe - Los Angeles, CA

Slave girl told me she got a Groupon deal at this place called Nick's Cafe. It was in Chinatown area and we just never had a chance to go during lunch since we work south of Highway 101. Well, the expiration date was coming up and we had no choice but to pay a visit.

When we got to the parking lot, I was a little concerned. The parking lot was pretty empty and the whole set up looked like a walking dead set. Lol. The restaurant turned out to be an old school diner and it felt like one too.

The service was quick and friendly. We sat at the bar and on top of the menu, there were bunch of daily specials posted by the kitchen. Slave girl got chilaquiles with chorizo, and I got carne asada skillet.

Chilaquiles came with chorizo, tortilla chips, eggs, salsa, cilantro, sour cream, and cojita cheese. It was basically a heart attack on a plate but pretty tasty. Problem with tortilla chips is they always get soggy in the middle of eating chilaquiles, but slave girl seemed to enjoy it.

Carne asada skillet came with potatoes, eggs, queso fresco, avocado, cilantro, and steak with tortilla on the side. It was hearty but a little bit greasy. There was so much food I could barely finish the dish.

Nick's Cafe is a cash only establishment and you would see signs all over the restaurant to remind you. So make sure you have cash since Nick's Cafe is not a cheap eat place. The up part was they give huge portions and make sure the customers leaving full. While this place was not a fine dinning spot, it is a great alternative for Denny's haters. Was the food amazing? No, but I would go back again.
