Tatsu Ramen - Los Angeles, CA

A friend wanted ramen and it was rare to us because she never wanted ramen when we hang out. So since we were in her hood, her pick. We ended up in Tatsu Ramen.

Parking was horrible. The free spots in the restaurant front was nearly impossible to get. Behind the restaurant had some guys that valet and that was what we did.

The story

When we walked in, I found those iPads by the door for people to put in their orders and pay the bills. It was pretty cool because Tatsu just took the existing concept of ramen vending machine in Japan and turned it into a more space saving 21st Central fun ordering system. Because of that, the service almost didn't exist.

We ordered bold and soul ramen. We also picked up a ramen burger.

The bold ramen was basically spicy tonkotsu ramen. Visually the bowl looked like a pot of wet brown doo doos, especially with a floating egg. The egg was a little overcooked and the broth was salty. The fat to meat ratio on the pork was not my liking as well due to excessive of fat.

The soul ramen looked a little better but maybe I was just too simple minded for the complex flavor, I found the broth salty and wasn't impressed. The art at the bottom of the bowl was cute though.

Cute

The ramen burger was surprisingly delicious. Ramen was soft like a bun and burger patty was well seasoned. Too bad it fell apart half way through, but very tasty. I would recommend this.

Overall, the ramen was meh to us while the side dish held the crown. My biggest issue was the price. For a bowl of brown doo doo, I really don't believe it was $13 worthy. I feel we paid more to the experience than the actual food. With the parking situation, probably won't return in a long time.
