Szechuan Chef - San Gabriel, CA

Slave girl and I have walked by this restaurant many times during family gathering. We never tried it because her family was not big on spicy food. Finally it was just me and her so we came to check this place out.

The restaurant was pretty empty during peak dinner time compared to other businesses in the area. The service was OK. We ordered spicy cold noodle, spicy boiled fish, and cauliflower dry pot.

The cold noodle was surprisingly good. The portion was big and it had a good kick. However, the spice level was just right which spared the tongue to try other dishes. If you come here, make sure to order this, highly recommended.

The cauliflower was meh. With dry pot, you really need good seasoning to make the dish good and I didn't find it here other than being salty.

Speaking of salty, the boiled fish won the salty olympic. I wasn't sure if they just simmer the pot over and over, but that salt level was stupid high. The red chili oil looked scary but it didn't enhance the taste at all.

Overall, I think this place didn't meet my expectations from the service to the food. You get what you pay for, but be sure to order the spicy cold noodle though.
