My Ramen Bar - Los Angeles, CA

Angry Fatty here.

Lunch time at work and we wanted ramen! Work bro told me to try this place with him since he enjoyed the meal here prior to this visit, and I invited slave girl to join us. We got there close to noon but it was rather empty inside. It was good because we didn't have to wait, but it was also bad because no one was willing to go in during lunch time except us.

We all ordered their popular #1, manichi special tonkotsu. For sides we got the gyoza, curry fried chicken over rice, and regular fried rice.

The ramen we got was horrible. It was oily and bland. With a coat of black garlic oil, you would think it had some flavors in the broth. There was none. The pork was thin and chewy. The egg was over done. Everything that could go wrong with ramen happened here.

I didn't try the fried rice so I can't comment on it, but curry fried chicken over rice was just bad. The chicken smelled curry at first but there was no curry flavor when biting into it. The chicken was dry and there was way too much rice in the bowl.

The gyoza was the only edible item on the menu. On the menu it said it was voted number 1 in Japan in 2004, but today in little Tokyo, this was just edible and no where near number 1.

Gyoza

I noticed the sign of the restaurant name outside was not matching anything inside the restaurant. It looked like someone just took over a business and too cheap or too lazy to get everything changed. Usually if a business is taken over, either the name is being kept to maintain the fans, or re-branded as a whole to have a fresh start. This place is so half assed I wasn't sure what they were trying to do, but one thing for sure, never again.

  1. The place itself looks great with good pub area, and a much larger upstairs beer hall. Nice decor at LA venue with brick walls, wooden bench seating, and chalkboard beer lists showing off the day's selections.

    1. That was my thought too as far the decorations go. It's just too bad I can't be full eating with my eyes.
