Seasons 52 - Costa Mesa, CA

After a long day of walking around in the mall, slave girl, our friend, and I were hungry for dinner. It was getting late and our selection of restaurants were decreasing so we decided to go to Season 52 for the convenience.

The restaurant was huge with a lot of seats. The low lighting created a romantic feel and there was a pianist in the bar performing live music. It looked like a great dating spot.

Our waitress was very friendly. Since it was a slow night, she actually had time to hang around and chatted a bit. She made some recommendations on what to order and we went with it. We got garlic pesto chicken flatbread, ahi tuna tartare, braised Australia lamb shank, scallop special with a glass of free wine, and a side order of lobster.

The flatbread came first and it was pretty good. It had chicken, mozzarella, balsamic, cipollini onions, roasted red peppers, and arugula. The flatbread was crunchy, and the flavor was pretty balanced. Slave girl said there was too much pesto, but not to me.

Ahi tuna tartare had tuna, wasabi-avocado mousse, tropical salsa, and garnished with some Sriracha drops. We actually didn't like this at all because it was overly sweet. Not something I would order again.

The scallop and lobster were not cooked consistently. Some parts were fine and some parts were over cooked. When the scallop becomes rubbery, you know it's time to ditch it. The worst part was the ravioli that came with the scallop. It had lemon flavored panna cotta filling inside, which tasted like dessert and it did not go well with the scallop at all. Whoever thought about this dish, you are wrong.

The lamb shank was my favorite for the night. Well cooked and fall off the bone easily. It was too bad the sauce was a tad too sweet or this dish would have been perfect. For the side vegetables, I've always found it strange to have string beans and brussel sprouts together, and that hasn't changed after tonight's dinner.

We weren't going to get dessert, but our waitress brought a whole tray of goodies and slave girl couldn't say no to it. She got the pumpkin pie and it was way too sweet for me. She seemed to enjoy it.

Overall not impressed. I was especially sad for the scallops due to how bad they were cooked. Food were on the sweeter side throughout the board. Even though the service was decent, I don't think I would come back for the food again.
