The Pizza Press - Whittier, CA

Do you love pizza? If you do, you will love to hear that The Pizza Press is opening its 13th location in Whittier! For a newcomer that was established in Anaheim in 2012, they sure bloomed pretty fast. Fatty and slave girl was invited to try their food before the grand opening on Thursday, 8/10/17, so that we can report on our findings.

The restaurant was located in a newly constructed shopping plaza. Tucked away in the corner, there were many spots to park without any issues. The restaurant was decorated to have the old newspaper press feel and the uniform took us back in time. The seating was also bright and spacious.

They also have crafted draft beer to serve. I believe they will rotate the beer selections periodically and the selections were amazing, especially if you love IPA. Beer flights of 4 is also available upon request even though it was not on the menu.

Not really beer, but options

Ordering was easy and quick, it only took about 5 minutes for a pizza to be made. Woah! We got the choice of either making our own or just ordering the signature pies. I have tried my own style before and probably not the best looking thing when it came out of the oven, so I opted in to try the signature pies.

After trying all the different pies, my favorite one was The Herald. It came with a white sauce as the base, mozzarella, grilled chicken breast, ricotta, grape tomato, red onion, and crimini mushrooms and was then finished with basil. This classic combination didn't have the best visual presentation, but the flavor was most defined and most delicious to me.

Slave girl loved The Sun the most. It had the red sauce as its base, mozzarella, honey smoked ham, bourbon bacon, aged sharp cheddar, pineapple, grape tomato, and scallion. It was similar to Hawaiian pizza but better. The saltiness of the ham and bacon together with sweet fresh pineapple... the bite was paradise.

To my surprise (which you will never hear this again) the vegan pizza, The Gazette, was our second top choice. It wasn't made with real cheese but we didn't miss it at all. It used extra virgin olive oil as base, topped with Daiya vegan cheese, roasted garlic cloves, red onion, grape tomato, spinach, roasted zucchini, and squash; and then it finished up with wild arugula and chimichurri sauce. The flavor was bold and rich from the garlic cloves PLUS the spiciness from chimichurri sauce, you got a winning vegan pie right there.

There were other choices of pre-set pies to pick from, like the vegetarian pizza (The Chronicle) or the meat pizza (The Tribune). Of course, I would always have the option to make my own if I wasn't in the mood for the pre-set menu.

Close to the end of the meal, slave girl got a cookie to munch on, and that was when I noticed they also had ice cream sandwich. I didn't have any because I was so full. Make sure you try it and let me know how you like it.

On their grand opening day only, they will have a free pizza giveaway with a purchase of any beverages, but you would need to go to their website (http://eepurl.com/cJ7tc5) to sign up first in order to get a voucher to redeem the deal. DO. NOT. WAIT.

At the end of the day, I liked the food that I tasted, and I liked how fast it could be made. With their planning of happy hour in the future, what's there not to like about having pizza and beer together? Let's get the party started!
