The first time I visited BreadFish Cafe, I believe they just opened their door and I remembered the food being good. It has been awhile and I wanted to see if the quality still the same so I dragged slave girl with me for a revisit.
It was on a Saturday during lunch time. Oh man, this place was jam packed. They had a wait list available but it was all the way back by the register. If you came in with no seats available, make sure to put down your name on the list. Don't be that guy/gal waiting around and never get called for a table.
This time around, we ordered popcorn chicken, pork chop rice, pork thick soup noodles, and a small minced pork and pickle over rice.
Popcorn chicken came first. At medium spicy level, it had a good kick. The seasoning was right on and definitely on the repeating order list.
Pork chop rice came with a pork chop, 2 veggie sides and minced pork over rice. Refill for the sides and minced pork sauce were available upon request. Minced pork was good but the pork chop was way too sweet. Even slave girl pointed that out, it must be really sweet.
Minced pork and pickle over rice was similar to the one with pork chop rice, but that pickle taste really elevated the rice dish. The only thing I could hope for was a bigger bowl. With all the toppings over the rice, it was actually difficult to eat anything from the bowl. Good rice portion though.
Pork thick soup noodles were excellent except for the noodles! The taste of the pork thick soup instantly reminded me of Taiwan. I think it was because of the red shallots used. The noodles were stuck together and made it hard to eat. I wasn't talking about 1 or 2 stuck together here, they came in an army of 4 or 5. Was it because the noodles were pre-made?
Overall, I like the restaurant. The service was friendly when they had time to pay attention to us. I get it, working on 7+ tables with just one person was a bitch, maybe hire more staff on the weekends? Thanks for trying though. The food was good with some minor issues here and there. I would go back more often if it wasn't a cash only spot.
I like this restaurant, too! However, sometimes they add too much MSG...
ReplyDeleteThis is the best function room in the city. The food they served was warm, fresh and tasty, and the panoramic window is a sight to behold on a clear day. The main hall of event space San Francisco was similar to a club/lounge – however, it had more of an intimate feel.
