Slave girl saw a Groupon deal for Simplydlicious and figured I would like it, so she bought it and took me to try it out on a Friday night. Well, here was what happened...
Pretty empty on a Friday night... |

The location was street parking only with a lot of dark areas. The lady inside was welcoming and the restaurant had a good New Orleans vibe. They also had 70s soul music playing and that was nice.
As we were about to order the gumbo and oxtail, we were told they didn't have gumbo, and oxtail was cooking but not ready for dinner service. It was on a Friday night around 7pm... really? The lady told us the next best thing to get was golden fried chicken and creole shrimp etouffee. Hey if she said it was good, why wouldn't we order it? For the sides, she told us no mashed potatoes either... Sigh. She suggested fries since it was like crunchy mashed potatoes, and red pepper cabbage.
First we got the shrimp etouffee. The shrimp was blackened and served with house etouffee sauce and rice. The shrimp was perfectly seasoned and it tasted great. The etouffee sauce though, was a bit too sweet for me and didn't really pair well with the shrimp.
Golden fried chicken was also not good. I tried the drum and wing first. They were dry and overcooked. I didn't want to eat the breast because it was already jaded. I mentioned it to the lady and she asked me if I tried the dark meat. Sigh, the chicken was on the table in front of you... She said she would let the chef know. That was that.
The side fries was soggy and the sauce didn't really do anything. The cabbage on the other hand tasted great, but there was no trace of red peppers like the menu mentioned.
The cornbread was just dry no matter which corner we dug into. Shame.
Overall experience wasn't all that amazing. It was too bad because I felt if we had the gumbo and oxtail, we might have enjoyed our dinner way more. I still don't know how a restaurant ran out some of their popular items on a Friday night...
