Polka Restaurant - Los Angeles, CA (Eagle Rock)

Slave girl got a Groupon deal for this Polish restaurant because she knows I like to eat different food from all over the world. On a fine Friday night, we headed out to give it a try.

We arrived when they were just opened for dinner so it was pretty empty. Apparently, they were featured on Diners, Drive ins, and Dives. It's not like I agree with the show all the time but certain expectations were made.

The service was pretty good. It was a one man show but since no one was around, we were being checked on pretty often. We didn't really know what to order so he suggested to go with royal platter and schnitzel (kotlet). Groupon deal also came with polka crapes for dessert.

The main dishes came with free daily soup and salad. The salad was simple but the dressing was interesting. It was pretty much Italian mixing with some Asian flavor. You will know what I mean when you have it. The daily soup was tomato soup with macaronis. It had a canned soup taste and it was strange to see macaronis floating in my tomato soup.

Why were there holes in my soup?!

Ooooh, I see

The royal platter came with beef stew, cabbage roll, and two pierogis. We were able to pick two different flavors of pierogis so we chose meat and potato cheese jalapeno. The meat pierogi was bland and borderline dry; the potato cheese jalapeno was really good with a kick. I wasn't a fan of the stew since it lacked on flavors and beef was not tender. I had high hope for the cabbage roll but sadly the decoration dill overpowered the roll while the meat inside was bland and dry like the pierogis. Matter of fact, that dill also made the mashed potato tasted funny.

The schnitzel on the other hand was fantastic. It was well seasoned and perfectly fried with a crunchy texture. If this is how the Polish make their pork chop all the time, they really should make this a national dish.

The dessert crape had cheery sauce on top and cream cheese inside. It came to the table with flames on the plate. No worry, it was just cinnamon. Nothing really special about it but slave girl ate most of it.

Overall, the service was good while the food was mostly bland and undesirable. The price here was waaaay over their head. Don't get me wrong, the pork chop was awesome but there was no way I would pay $23 for it. Really not worth the price and probably won't go back again.
