Shen Yang Restaurant - San Gabriel, CA

Friends invited slave girl and I out of our cave for some chows. We weren't really told what we were having other than friends wanted this soup thing. Oh yes, in friends we trust and we ended up at Shen Yang. I was pretty excited when I saw their menu because it was northeast Chinese region dishes and I have never had it before. Which is why I couldn't tell you if the food was authentic, but who cares as long I liked the taste, right?

This was how it happened. Co-worker was talking about Peruvian chicken at east Hollywood and that triggered my craving for fried chicken. Oh I know, random as usual. Fig & Olive - West Hollywood, CA

To celebrate me getting a new job, slave girl got a Groupon deal to try out this restaurant with me. The deal was pretty good, for $85, we can have 3 crostinis, one appetizer including crudo, 2 main courses and 2 drinks up to $16 each. I was excited for my first time visit since I've had their crostini when I attended other food events before and was impressed with the food.

Bailey Street Kitchen - Whittier, CA

Slave girl, friends, and I got up super early to hike hellman in Whittier. After self destruction for hours (is that why it's called hell, man?) we finally rolled to the bottom of the hill and ready to refill the calories we had lost. Bailey Street Kitchen sounded decent and we were excited.

On a fine Monday evening, fatty here got invited to an event to check out El Coyote Mexican Cafe while learning what FORD has been up to lately. I thought the parking was going to be horrible given the location, but upon arrival I found out there was complimentary valet parking. Phew, what a relive.

Kai Ramen - Alhambra, CA

Slave girl said ramen, I said let's go. Without knowing where she had in mind, we ended up at Kai Ramen since we didn't make it last time (went to China Tasty by accident...). Well that's cool, I have never been to this place anyway.

After checking out the ferry building, I made slave girl walked with me to pier 39. On the way over, we passed by coqueta and she told me her brother liked this place. Say what!? If dungeon boy liked it, it has to be good since I know he's pretty picky when it comes to food. So we dashed in and found out we could sit at the bar without reservation.

Slave girl and I finally made it to San Francisco by train. Since it was still bright and early, we figured we should put something in our tummy before the long walk we were about to face. After some random search, we decided on the Butler and the Chef.

Copenhagen Sausage Garden - Solvang, CA

Slave girl and I were on a tour to San Francisco and we stopped by the town to breath some fresh Denmark air on US soil. Our stop was short so we had to grab something fast. Slave girl said they had good sausages and I had doubts because my sausage should be the best, period. Anyway, after a quick research we found this place.

Luscious Dumplings - San Gabriel, CA

This is my third visit at this restaurant and first time eating here. The first time when slave girl and I came during a late afternoon, it was closed. The second time we came, they ran out of all the dumplings and only had noodles to serve. Well, since they are famous for dumplings, I didn't want to waste my first impression on the noodles. So 3rd time was the charm and I was really excited to finally able to try this place.

Tokyo Central - West Covina, CA

Usually slave girl and I don't come to West Covina unless there was a Groupon deal. Today, thanks to our friend Charlie T., we learned about this tuna cutting event at Tokyo Central Market in West Covina on Saturday,  7/16/2016. Sad thing was I had a dental appointment so we missed all the cutting show and fun presentation. Luckily, we were still in time for the sushi making part, which was the highlight for us fatties.

Soju Belly - Garden Grove, CA

Crazy late night fun continued and the group decided to come to Soju Belly after eating so much food for dinner already. Slowly walking through a dark ally, we found the restaurant with a bouncer outside. Yes! No kids inside!

Thuy’s Vietnamese Restaurant - Garden Grove, CA

Ever since my friends showed me pictures of Vietnamese bar food, I have been begging and moaning about being taken over to those places by them. Sure I could go by myself but the stuff would not be as authentic simply because I wouldn't know what and how to order the off menu items. Finally, we came to Thuy's and ready for some adventure eating.

TASTE OF SANTA ANA - Santa Ana, CA

A friend of mine invited me to Taste of Santa Ana. We have been to Taste of Anaheim and Taste of Downtown Santa Ana before and were impressed with the events. The locations, the event staff, and most importantly, the vendors. It was mostly local vendors and we got to experience what local restaurants had to offer. Well, not this event.

BUCCUMI - Rowland Heights, CA

I have seen this place for quite some times and was always wondering what they have to offer in order to stay in business for this long. Don't get me wrong, it's just I remember seeing different restaurants had came and gone at this same location for the past years. On one random night, I asked slave girl to check out this place with me.

SPOT PRAWN FUN TRIP - Anacortes, WA

Every year since I left WA, I have been saying I would go back for the shrimping season to catch some spot prawns with my buddy. Finally during this year, I had enough vacation time and decided to drag slave girl and some friends to enjoy shrimp hunting.

TECHNIQUE RESTAURANT - Pasadena, CA

I have heard about this place before I even moved to LA, but sadly never had the chance to check it out due to their operation hours. (Monday to Friday in between 5-8pm for dinner) I was interested mainly not just for the cheap food, but mostly wanted to experience what culinary students can create for their customers, especially after finding out they change their menu every 6 months.
